Support Leeward Rail!

Oh, my poor, neglected blog. When there’s twitter, facebook, flickr, and the website, there’s hardly any time to pop over here and write. Well, I’m jumping back in, to ask y’all a favor: please support (or at least click the link to) my father’s band, Leeward Rail. It’s for a great cause, and some great guys. :)

I have many, many models and families to blog, but I’ll give a quick update for the Fall Schedule: we’re booking weekends only now, and limited weekday evenings. September is completely booked, and we’re filling October and November with Christmas Card sessions and some very cool commercial shoots.
I’ll pop back in to post photo, I promise! But for now, make sure you check out my facebook fan page for recent updates, and my twitter account. :)

And, for all of my families and models- Happy Back to School (groan)! ;)

So much to blog, so little time- I’m off to another shoot on this beautiful day! But I had to make a quick post to share this morning’s cutie.

Sisters | New England Family Photography | Mariah Gale

We shot this session at The Endicott Estatein Dedham, MA, and I couldn’t love it any more. Rolling hills and a house with huge white porches- portrait setting heaven :) You can see the connection these two have- Madeline is a Cameo Model, and her younger sister Kate is right behind her!

Beach Sessions | New England Beach Photography | Mariah Gale

blog13-copy.jpg

A snap from a get-together with a friend and his gorgeous daughter at the tidepools of Rockport, Massachusetts. We’ve started booking beach sessions for July and August, and I’d like to give a couple pointers for those of you thinking of it. For a successful family beach session, it takes a very complicated equation of…ahem…three things! ;)

1) Great Light. This is usually achieved by shooting at 3pm or after, in the later afternoon and evening. Sunset light on the beach is delectably fantastic, and will give that ‘glow’ that is classically renowned for portraits. Afternoon light is not required, however- we can shoot in any amount of light, but this is just…*sigh*…perfection. :)

2) A Beach, an Uncrowded Beach.  Yes, we’ll need a beach for a beach session. But we’ll need a great one that won’t have many people for the background of your photos- a hidden gem of a location, if you will. We have shot at plenty of places on Plum Island, Crane’s Beach, Hampton Beach, and other local beaches with ’secret spots’, so don’t hesitate to ask Mariah for suggestions on location. Of course, your own frequented shore is a perfect place to shoot, but ponder if it will be amply un-populated come the *perfect light* hours. The coast of Maine is my new favorite, wildly photogenic backdrop.

3) Wardrobe and a sense of Adventure. Mariah Gale beach sessions are usually a lot more than sitting in the dunes- they’re frollicking, splashing, get-down-in-the-sand fun. Your wardrobe can reflect this- or it can reflect the classic white-tee-and-khakis beach accoutrement, or both! Think brightly colored tees and sundresses for the kids, with a khaki look for adults, or mix and match. Put a spin on the classic ‘Ralph Lauren’ look!

As always, contact us for rates. We look forward to capturing your family!
